Three evening performances and one of the biggest promotion drives ever sponsored at St. Anthony are special features of the sale of tickets to "The Desert Song."
Performances are set for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evening, April 18, 19, 20 at 8:15 p.m. in the auditorium. The individual sale quota was

"I think this is a fine way for students to exhibit their talent," stated Joan Rehdorf 314 who is one of the eight St. Anthony students entering the Metropolitan Detroit Science Fair.

    The fair, May 1-4 at the Michigan State Fairgrounds, is co-sponsored by The Detroit News and The Engineering Society of Detroit.
    Any student in grades 7-12 is eligible to enter. Students who present the best exhibits will be awarded prizes totalling more than $2,000 in value.
    Five $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to juniors and seniors whose work is judged most outstanding. There are also special "grand awards" which will go to the two senior division students with the best exhibits.
    Mildred Werner is working on an exhibit of nature indicators; Faith Minne, a model of a cyclone; Stanley Dembinski, a smoke box; Marvin Mauch, a three - stage rocket.
    Candle forms, every day magnetism, a magnetic electric motor, and an accurate homemade scale are being worked on respectively by Juniors Joan Rehdorf, Ken Janiszewski, Jim Taube, and Frank Habbel.

    A one-year tuition scholarship to Marygrove College was awarded to Judy Meyers 216 on the basis of a competitive examination.

    Judy took the exam along with about 150 other girls from the Detroit area on February 27.

    "I'm really so surprised and delighted," said Judy. "Without the scholarship, the tuition would have presented a real problem. Now that I don't have that added difficulty I'll be able to devote much more time to my schoolwork."

         Alumni On Friday

    A special alumni night will be held Friday, with members of the '56 graduating class meeting in rooms 118 and 119 and '57 graduates gathering in 216 and 217 before the performance begins.

         Divisions Compete

    Competition, fostered by the offer of a party on school time, rages along division lines, as the seniors attempt to outsell the juniors, the juniors eye the seniors and underclassmen, and the sophomores and freshmen attempt to win the honors for themselves.
    The rally which started the drive featured student talent and a sneak preview of one of the scenes from the operetta.

Open Dance

The St. Anthony parish Young Ladies' Sodality will sponsor a dance Saturday, April 26, in the high school gymnasium.

The U. S. armed forces weren't the only military groups helping. The knights lent swords for the occasion—the Knights of St. John, that is.

Glittering spangles, billowing pantaloons, and lush, royal colors decorate many of the costumes.

The CBW theme, "Christian Reading for Christian Living," was well expressed in both grade and high school albums, so both were listed for the national contest.
The grade school album was sent to headquarters and the high school one reserved for display at the state Catholic Library Association spring meeting in Flint, April 26.

Don Koch will reign as king, with his date. Donna Guzdiol, as queen. The junior girls chose Don by popular vote.
Time of the dance is 8:30 - 11:30.

Since this is an activity of the parish, not the school, the dance is open to outsiders.

They're off to the Road-e-o. A rodeo of questions, that is.
Thirty-three SAH students will saddle up in an attempt to ride on to national competition in the 8th annual Teen-Age Safe Driving Road-e-o sponsored by the Detroit Junior Board of Commerce.

    The competitions will be held on a community, state, and national level, and the highest scorers in each level will be chosen to represent their respective locality in each contest.
    The local contests are written examinations, and in the state and national competitions, winners will be chosen for actual driving ability.
    The purpose of the Road-e-o is to help the teenager, his school, and his community by encouraging him to be a safe and sane driver.
    Another interesting feature of the Road-e-o is the fact that cash and scholarship prizes will be awarded on all three levels.
    The four district champs of Detroit will be awarded $100 each and the chance to compete in the state contest. State winners receive scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,500 in value plus an expense-paid trip to Washington, D. C. to compete for national honors.
    Runners-up also receive small cash and scholarship prizes. Here's hoping SAH can handle the broncs and bring home a few awards in this year's Road-e-o.

    Since approximately 40,000 Detroit area parochial school students compete annually in the ADF essay contest, it isn't an easy task to think of new and original ways to treat the subject.
    The 44 SAHers, two from every English class, who won rosaries blessed by the Holy Father this year impressed their teachers with the originality of their essays.
    Senior rosary winners are Dave Chesney, Mary Papa, Maxine Willis, John Gracki, Elaine Kehrig, Jim Rogers, Joan Diegel, and Marvin Mauch.
    Among the juniors Joe Puzzuoli, Silvana LaRocca, Gerry Gorecki, Rose Gaynor, Laurine Bratke, Frank Habbel, Dick Kordos, Winnie McCarthy, Elaine Gerhard, and Tony Rutkowski took honors.
